One movie on Thursday evening but it was at the State Theatre, though in the dress circle for a change…a long way from the action. This was an Australian movie, set in Melbourne called Ali’s Wedding, based on a true story set in a muslim community. To add a further twist, the story is based on the life of Osamah Sami who played himself in the movie. Osamah is a writer, director and standup comedian. Played for laughs, this was the story of the son of a cleric, doing uni entrance exams, falling in love, running from an arranged marriage, and trying to do his parents proud. A strong, feelgood sort of movie with a lot of heart and a good sense of humour.
